JENNY Broadhurst, who has recently been appointed development officer for the north west region of a charity called Contact the Elderly, is looking to set up a group in Warrington.

One is already established in Lymm.

The charity aims to alleviate the isolation of very elderly people living alone, and with limited support from family, friends and social services.

One Sunday afternoon a month, volunteer drivers take elderly people on regular visits to volunteer hosts' homes for tea in a friendly and informal atmosphere. It is an opportunity for the elderly to meet others in the same situation and develop friendships. Groups visit a different home every month and spend a few hours in the company of friends old and new.

The charity's work often leads to old people becoming part of an extended family, and they can feel much better about themselves.

Jenny, 30, who lives in Whittle Hall, has two children.

She said: "My role is to promote the work of the charity, recruit new volunteers, develop new groups and raise overall awareness among the general public, voluntary and statutory organisations, business and not for the not-for-profit sector."

Jenny can be contacted on 01925 710014.
