LADIES HOCKEY
WINNINGTON Ladies suffered a thrashing against a Chester side who look groomed for promotion to the National League.
Park were never in serious contention against the top placed side, whose movement off the ball and well-rehearsed set moves led to a 4-0 win.
Despite the heavy defeat, Park's defence actually worked well in the first half in the face of constant Chester pressure, but they were eventually outclassed in terms of teamwork and work rate.
Park's 2nds were content to gain a point from a 0-0 draw at Sir John Deane's against Congleton.
The Winnington side was depleted as its significant contingent of PE teachers was unavailable because of Cheshire school matches, and with no substitutes available they soon tired.
There were encouraging performances from youngsters Hannah Stockton and goalkeeper Catherine Forshaw. Sweeper Julie Harries was named player of the match having produced some well-timed tackles which thwarted several Congleton breaks.
This Saturday, the Winnington Park's 1sts are at home to York at Sir John Deane's (2.15pm). The 2nds are away to Daten, while the 3rds host Daten at the college (3.45pm).
