RESIDENTS have banded together to oppose an entertainments licence bid by the landlord at a nearby pub.

Eight people living in Brown Lees Road, Biddulph, have signed a petition against the licence move at The Gardeners Arms.

They say music from the pub can be heard in homes nearby, taxis calling there sound their horns late at night, and the pub's outside lights ruin their privacy.

Three residents support the bid, saying there have been vast improvements to the pub since Roland Taylor and Karen Bedson took it over.

Mr Taylor is seeking an annual entertainments licence for Fridays and Saturdays between 7pm and 11.30pm, and on Sundays for music only between 7pm and 11pm.

Moorlands Council Chief Executive Barry Preedy said the council had received noise complaints from people living near the pub.

As a result Burtonwood Breweries is looking at installing acoustic covers to the fan outlets on the pub.

However Mr Preedy said the volume of the music appeared to be causing the problems, and would benefit from being controlled at source.

The council is suggesting an 11pm finish on Friday and Saturday and 10.30pm on Sunday because of complaints.

The licence bid is due to be discussed by Moorlands councillors today.
