HEADTEACHER David Black spoke this week of his shock at the death on Thursday of one of his pupils.
Marcus Samuels, a first year pupil at Alsager School, was found hanged in the bedroom of his home in Coronation Avenue, Alsager.
The 11-year-old had attended the school for two months, starting a few weeks into the autumn term.
During that time he had impressed staff and made many friends.
Mr Black said everyone at the school was 'shocked and saddened' by Marcus' tragic death.
"Marcus had attended Alsager School for just eight weeks, but during that time had already impressed his teachers as a happy, intelligent and energetic young person," he said.
"He had an impish sense of humour, and was well liked by all the pupils who knew him.
"Marcus loved science, and was a talented artist.
"He had already begun to enjoy the wider life of the school, and had joined the computer club.
"He was also a keen swimmer, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this very sad time."
Marcus' body was discovered on Thursday evening, and a post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death to be hanging.
An inquest was opened for identification purposes on Monday, and police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
