Blackpool Mechs...2

Tetley Walker...1

A whirlwind start by Blackpool Mechanics caught Tetley cold at a wet and windy Jepson Way as they missed the chance to leap-frog their hosts and claim second place in North West Counties League Division Two.

The home side scored after two minutes when an unmarked Wes Collins volleyed a right wing cross past a helpless Lee Medland.

Ten minutes later Collins struck again when he received the ball on the edge of the area and coolly chipped Medland.

Pushed on to the back foot from the kick-off, Tetley struggled to get into the game.

Their only scoring chance of a disappointing opening half came when a long range shot from impressive full back Clive Locke skimmed the bar.

Having been on the receiving end of an Alan Aspinall half-time talking to, Tetley Walker started the second half in a much more positive mood and nearly scored after four minutes when from a corner Karl Jones saw his goalbound header cleared off the line.

Always a threat on the break, Collins had the chance to complete his hat-trick in the 64th minute but was denied by a brilliant double save by Medland, who despite picking up an injury kept his side in the game.

Tetley were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute when Barry Edwardson was bundled over in a penalty area scramble.

Blackpool goalkeeper Stuart Barton saved the Mechanics all three points by saving Simon Corns' spot kick.

Three minutes later Edwardson was brought down again in the area and this time Jimmy Collins gave Barton no chance as he cut Blackpool's lead from the penalty spot.

In a frantic final few minutes, Tetley almost snatched an unlikely equalising goal after a last minute corner was headed against the underside of Blackpool's bar.

From the resultant goal line scramble Tetley were unable to force the ball over the line.
