FORMER international Alan Hunte will play on the wing for Rugby Union side Pontypridd against Swansea on Saturday.

The friendly clash will be his first game with the south Wales club after they agreed a loan deal with Warrington Wolves this week.

It leaves Hunte's playing future up in the air, as he may find he likes the switch and seek a permanent move from Wilderspool.

Hunte said: "It has all come about quite quickly but it is a good opportunity for me and a good experience for me to enjoy.

"At the moment Warrington aren't playing so it gives me the chance to try a game which I don't have much experience in.

"If something comes of it for me in the future then great. At the moment it is nothing long term but it is for the rest of the off-season."

Huntey, top try scorer for the Wolves in Super League V with 19 touch downs from 31 appearances, believes a switch to Union may be able to lengthen his rugby career but much will depend on how he adjusts to a code which has recruited other League stars like Jason Robinson and Apollo Perelini in recent weeks.

The 30-year-old does have one season left of his current three-year Wolves contract but the GUARDIAN understands the club will not stand in his way should he elect to seek a full time career in Union.

Wolves coach Darryl Van de Velde said: "He has gone on loan for a few months and we will review the situation in February.

"Alan wants to look at the opportunity of extending his career and thinks Rugby Union might give him that."

Hunte joined the Wolves from Hull Sharks for the 1999 season and scored 21 tries in 32 games. He crossed for some marvellous touch downs but, like last year, he was unable to find the kind of consistent form which made him an international regular while in his nine years with St. Helens.
