TWO goals from Wayne Brotherton sent Alsager on their way to a battling 3-2 victory on Saturday.
Alsager led 2-0 for 50 minutes of their home league match, against Formby, which produced three goals in 14 minutes.
Formby made it 3-2 with 26 minutes to go, and Alsager were forced to defend to hold onto their lead.
The match saw debuts for Alsager for former Knypersley Vics keeper Rob Powner and ex-Nantwich Town striker Paul Ireland.
Formby had three good first half chances in front of goal, one of which forced a fine save from Powner.
However it was Alsager who took the lead on 28 minutes when Ireland forced the Formby keeper into a mistake when trying to kick clear.
Brotherton picked up the loose ball, which he hammered past the keeper.
Brotherton made it 2-0 five minutes before half-time when he scored with a tremendous shot from 20 yards which gave the keeper no chance.
Formby made it 2-1 five minutes into the second half when O'Brien smashed a fierce drive past past Powner.
Alsager hit back in the 54th minute when Steve Faint broke free and chipped the ball over the advancing keeper from 10 yards out.
Formby continued to press forward, and scored a second on 64 minutes, sparking late pressure from the visitors.
Alsager drew 0-0 at Warrington on Tuesday night.
Alsager travel to Alfreton in the league tomorrow, and Chadderton in the League Cup on Tuesday.
