AN AREA of Winsford has been revealed as one of Cheshire's worst black spots for family stress

Winsford's old Over Two ward, which covers Greenfields and Glebe Green, is outlined in a borough council application for funding as 'one of the highest ranking areas of family stress in Cheshire'.

Cathy Boyd, Community Partnerships Manager at Vale Royal, said levels of family stress can be measured by a number of indicators.

She said: "Be it employment or a lack of free school meals, a combination of different factors can contribute to family stress."

The figures, from South Cheshire Health Authority, were compiled by taking these matters into consideration, along with child protection, children and family referrals, community service and probation orders.

The Leisure Services department highlighted these statistics in a funding application to Sport England.

The department hopes to create a partnership to encourage sports participation for those with low incomes, disabilities and other problems.

Community sport and operations manager, Elly McFahn, said: "Some of the aims and outcomes of our project will have a knock on effect to family stress, because we are looking at problems such as teenage pregnancies through social inclusion in sporting activities."

The leisure services department will hear how successful its bid has been in July.
