CONGLETON Town's dismal end to the season continued on Saturday with a nightmare defeat at the hands of Trafford.

The Bears went down 6-2 at home, and Workington added to the misery with a 3-0 victory at Booth Street on Tuesday.

Trafford had a fair slice of luck on Saturday, and were 3-1 up with after only 35 minutes of the match against their relegated opponents.

Congleton put into their own net twice, and keeper Kevin Taylor was taken off early on after being concussed in a collision with a defender.

The Bears might have taken the lead in the first 10 minutes, but Darren Washington just failed to get his foot to a John Brown free kick.

Taylor was injured on 17 minutes when he and Lyndon Beardmore went to cut out a ball.

A lack of communication ended with both players colliding, with Taylor coming off worse.

He suffered a knock to the head, and was taken off several minutes later after being unable to continue.

Trafford took the lead a minute after the collision when Dave Oxton put a ball played across the face of goal into his own net.

Taylor went off a few minutes later, and was replaced by full back John Johnston.

Trafford made it 2-0 on 21 minutes when a free kick flew off the chest of Emmett and looped over everyone into the net.

Congleton scored a minute later when new signing Liam Kerney crashed a shot home from the edge of the area.

Johnston made way in goal for Oxton, and the ball squeezed from his grasp on 35 minutes for Emmett to pounce for his second.

Trafford scored their fourth on 43 minutes when a player toe poked the ball past Oxton, and Washington missed a sitter on the stroke of half time, lifting the ball over from close range.

.A ball driven across low into the area went in off Beardmore on 55 minutes, and midway through the half Emmett scored his third with a close range shot.

Congleton scored a consolation second with eight minutes left when Chris Royle was fouled in the box, and Washington converted the penalty.

Workington took the lead on 52 minutes from a shot in the area, made it 2-0 with a 59th minute header, and hit their third with a shot from 18 yards out 10 minutes from time.
