Old Bedians ...8

Trafford MV ...7

THE final game of the season saw Trafford MV slip up once again and enforced the point that they are not consistent enough and do not have the strength of squad to compete at higher levels at this point in time.

Enforced changes both to pesonnel and positional played havoc with organisation and once again it was the back division that struggled as a result.

With nothing really at stake sides had little to play for apart from their own pride - in the days before leagues this was the only prize at stake to day it seems to count for little!

Following an emphatic win earlier in the season Trafford may have taken too much for granted which is a failing at any level of Rugby Union.

Bedians opened the stronger of the sides but it was not long before MV's pack lifted their game to come to terms with Andy Pearson playing a blinder in his last outing for the club before heading south due to work commitments.

Once again however it was the experience of the pack that kept MV in the frame with Kevan, Gibbs and Bailey playing well.

Bedians took an early three point lead as they kicked a penalty through their stand off and shortly before half time MV's prop Jennings made a real sausage of himself as he fumbled a pass straight into his opposite numbers hands for the Bedians No. 3 to amble over the try line to secure an 8-0 lead for the home side.

MV fought hard to keep on terms in the second period and it was the reliable skipper on the day John Kevan that spiced the game up with a well taken try from a tap penalty move.

With a simple conversion for Marfleet it looked as if MV might sneak a win however with no further tries for either side and several missed penalty attempts for MV it was time for the scoreboard to be put away for the summer break as the home team ran in narrow victors on the day.

The final game of the League season saw MV slip to a disappointing 4th place behind De La Salle, Tyldesley and Bury although with a bit more effort 3rd place should have been held on to.

Trafford fielded a B side against Lymm and a well contested game go in favour of the visit ors to MV's MacPherson Park.

With not much between the packs it was more enterprise in the backs that edged the result for Lymm.

Playing well for MV were Mee, McCauly and Hibbert and stand off Ben Belcher kicked MV's penalty in a 3-13 defeat.

The Trafford backroom staff will be looking to recruit new talent over the summer and light training will continue over the close season.
