Culcheth...16

Rylands...22

RYLANDS made hard work of this Carlsberg-Tetley Knockout quarter-finals tie and only played well in fits and starts while the home side gave their all.

Nevertheless, Rylands went through and will face Burtonwood Bridge, who are in the Warrington competition for the first time, in the semi-finals.

Culcheth were the first to score from a Mike Lee kick with hooker A. Wright regathering to put the ball down. Paul Topping's attempt at the conversion bounced off the sticks.

Rylands then pushed for the line for 15 minutes and this eventually paid off as Alan Brinksman crossed and Peter Leonard converted.

Culcheth's Topping crossed the line after Rylands' players missed a few tackles but he was unable to convert his own try.

Good play across the pitch resulted in the next try which came from Rylands' Wayne Farr to put the scores even at half-time.

The second half saw Culcheth tire more than Rylands and Farr ran in his second try taking advantage of a gap in Culcheth's defence. Leonard converted.

Mickey Twiss then crossed the line and Leonard converted putting Rylands in the lead by 12 points.

Culcheth put the final points on the board with a try and conversion from substitute Lee Irving.
