WIDNES RUFCs annual Junior Schools Festival, timed to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the clubs junior section, was a keenly contested event.
Pewitt Hall, making their debut at the Wids, put in some fine performances but it was Cronton and Malvern, also debutants, who made it through to the final.
Cronton just managed to snatch a 60-55 victory in a gripping final.
The competition trophy and medals were presented by Councillor Eddie Jones who, coincidentally, coached Simms Cross, as they became the first ever-festival winners in 1992.
St Michaels, narrowly beaten semi finalists, finished as the highest placed Halton team and therefore qualify to represent Halton in the Cheshire Youth Games at Macclesfield on June 30.
