Runcorn Football Club bolstered their squad this week in preparation for the coming season by signing two new players, writes Debbie Quaile.
Veteran left sided mid-fielder David Gamble was snapped up last week on the Bosman ruling after being released by Marine FC at the end of last season.
And right midfielder Steve Carragher, a former Linnet, was also persuaded by player/manager Liam Watson to return to his old club
Gamble, Marines supporters player of the year for the 2000/2001 season, started his career with Grimsby and then joined Altrincham, before moving to Southport in January 1991.
He broke Southports clubs record for appearances in 1996-97 season and also played in the FA Trophy final for the Lancashire club.
Gamble is a free kick specialist who also takes penalties and renowned for his passing skills.
Former Linnet Steve Carragher was signed by the club from Accrington Stanley.
The 27-year-old right-sided winger, also capable of playing in defence, joined Stanley from Runcorn in the summer of 1999. His former clubs include Prescott Cables and Wrexham and he also enjoyed a spell in Australian football.
Runcorn Player/ Manager Liam Watson, who is hopeful of making a third signing before the new season begins, told Sports World: Im delighted that both players have agreed to join us.
Their quality and experience will be invaluable to us next season.
Runcorn are finalising their pre-season programme as players report back for training on July 7.
