A FORMER car spares shop reopens as a pub on Wednesday - following a £1.1 million building project.

Pub operator Wetherspoons has spent the last five months converting the building, which was originally a cinema in Albert Road.

Wetherspoons has managed to keep the history of the building alive by naming it The Premier, as chosen by World readers after the original cinema name.

Due to the development, 30 new full and part-time jobs will be created at the pub working under new manager Richard Greenwood.

The pub will have an alternative atmosphere and be completely music free without a pool table in sight.

Non-smoking

Approximately one third of the customer seating area will be designated as non-smoking.

The Premier will be wheelchair accessible and have a specially adapted toilet for customers with disabilities.

It will specialise in cask-conditioned beers, serving up to six at all time, including a range from micro-brewers across the UK.

A mouth-watering menu will also be available at all time.

Paintings by local artists will adorn the walls as well as photos and text relating to the history of Widnes.

Manager Richard Greenwood is looking forward to the grand opening.

He said: Im confident that customers will be impressed with the transformation of the building and pleased to see the name The Premier above the door once again.
