Warrington RUFC...12 Caldy...11
WARRINGTON Rugby Union Club chalked up their second North Two West league win but left it late on Saturday.
A 79th minute try by wing Neil Jackson saw a depleted Warrington side snatch victory in a game that Warrington had trailed in throughout.
Warrington went into the match without injured skipper Dave Hartill and suffered a further setback when influential flanker Nick Yardley limped out of the action after 20 minutes and wing Kevin Jones was unable to continue after the break.
Caldy took an early 3-0 lead and then proceeded to pin Warrington back in their own half with touch kicks and tight play in the forwards.
When the Caldy hooker squeezed over for a try by the posts early in the second half a Warrington defeat looked to be on the cards but Andy Walker's charge down of the conversion saved a certain two points.
With 20 minutes remaining, Warrington at last kept the ball in hand and a sweeping movement across the backs allowed Chris Myers to scamper over with Andy James adding the conversion.
Warrington were in the ascendancy but a harsh decision against James saw him sin-binned and Caldy extended their lead to 11-7 with the subsequent penalty.
As time was running out, Warrington gained the put-in from a wheeled scrum, moved the ball to the blind side where Jackson touched down in the corner.
This weekend Warrington are away to Altrincham Kersal.
