A GREEN team is ensuring visitors can see the wood for the trees at one of the town's beauty spots.

Warrington Ranger Service, in partnership with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), the borough council woodlands officer and direct services' tree crew are working to improve the planting at Culcheth Linear Park.

"Sensitive woodland management is essential for the long-term sustainability of trees in the park," said Culcheth ranger Angus Lord.

"The removal of weaker trees will enable better specimens to succeed while some of the cut stumps will be allowed to re-grow as a coppice.

"This allows more light to reach the woodland floor, enabling wild flowers to flourish.

"It also provides height diversity, improving the habitat for many species of insects, birds and mammals."

New members are always welcomed by the BTCV.

The group meets every Wednesday and Friday and undertakes a diverse range of conservation projects, as well as having a social side.
