CLOSE checks are being made on a firm dealing with Warrington Hospital's clinical waste after it was fined £100,000 for dumping blood and bodily fluids into the River Dee at Wrexham.
Newcastle-based Eurocare was sentenced at Chester Crown Court after being convicted of waste dumping allegations, following an Environment Agency prosecution.
Warrington Hospital is part of a 12-strong NHS consortium contracted to Eurocare for clinical waste services.
A consortium spokesman said: "We are naturally concerned to learn that Eurocare had not disposed of clinical waste properly."
Trusts are working closely with NHS agencies and the Environment Agency to monitor the company, he added.
