STEVE Tatlock was the hero of the hour as The Rest of the league defeated Lymm Select in a Grappenhall Darts League charity match for the Imperial Cancer Research fund.
He held his nerve to beat Norman Jackson in the deciding leg of a high quality contest played in front of a packed house.
The throwing was of the highest order throughout and almost £300 was raised for cancer research.
The Rest looked set to swamp Lymm early on. They raced into a 5-2 lead but their opponents refused to let their heads go down and they levelled the scores at 8-8 to set up a grandstand finale.
The Rest's best winners were Tatlock, 18 darts, K. Atkinson, 19 and S. Bebbington, 22.
S. Lowe, 15, R. Norcott, 12, N. Jackson, 17, D. Welsh, 17, Carl Cooper, 13 and T. Sheen, 19, shone for Lymm Select.
Meanwhile, the league's Beesley Leigh Three-a-Side Trophy was won by Golden Lion No.2, who beat their No.1 team 5-2 in the final.
The score reached 2-2 before the No.2 side moved up a few gears to win the next three games.
The star of the show was N. Johnson. He won in 18, 19 and 21 darts for the No.2 team.
D. Williams fired in a 13-darter for the No.1 side, who recorded a 5-1 win against GYCA No.4 at the semi-finals stage.
The best performers for Lion No.1 were M. Cooper, 19 and Tatlock, 12.
Lion No.2 reached the final on the back of a 5-2 victory over Barn Owl No.1.
Their top gun was L. Davenport, 13. N. Walker cracked in a 13-darter for Barn Owl.
