Mrs Elizabeth (Betty) Mather, wife of Mr James Mather, died on January 14, aged 77.
Mrs Mather, of Lovely Lane, lived in Warrington all her life. She attended St Barnabas Primary School and Bewsey Secondary School.
Mrs Mather last worked for many years as a practice manager at Bold Street Medical Centre and she previously worked at Warrington Hospital and Alliance Box.
She was an active member of St Barnabas' Church, served on the Church Council, helped to found the Walking Day Rose Queen festival, and made the first velvet cloaks and crowns for the event. She made gifts for church Christmas fairs, and taught in the Sunday School from the age of 14 until becoming too ill to continue.
She was a member of the League of Friends and chairman of the Church of England Children's Society, and through this, she introduced the annual Christingle services to St Barnabas' Church.
She leaves her husband, a son, a daughter and two granddaughters.
A service was held on January 21 at St Barnabas' Church, followed by interment at Warrington Cemetery. The Rev Karen Timmis officiated.
