WARRINGTON Town manager Alan Blair has laid the gauntlet down to Paul Hives to become his side's new driving force after it was revealed that Dave Tickle will miss the rest of the season with a broken ankle.
Blair admits that Tickle's injury is a major blow. He concedes that Town have lost the services of their most creative player but he is convinced that Hives can pick up the mantle.
Blair, who hopes to have Ian Callaghan and Mark Ashton available for selection again within the next few weeks, said: "We are going to miss Tickle's drive. He is one of our best players and his absence will put more onus on Paul to add another notch to his game.
"Paul is a good player but he doesn't have enough shots and score enough goals. He tends to sit in midfield but from now on I need him to start getting forward more.
"He certainly has the engine and the ability to do that and I'm sure that he can do a good job for us filling in as our driving force in midfield."
