Ronald Hynd's charming production of Copplia returns to the Empire Theatre, Liverpool, next Tuesday to open English National Ballet's Spring Tour 2003.
One of the Company's most popular ballets, Coppelia's 352 performances since 1985 have delighted literally tens of thousands of people throughout the UK, and was last seen in Liverpool in 1999.
Choreographed to Leo Delibes' vibrant score, Copplia follows the fortunes of the eccentric old dollmaker, Dr Coppelius. Having created the beautiful doll of the ballet's title, the dollmaker is driven by his obsession to bring his creation to life, leading to much hilarity.
Hynd's vision for Copplia is realised for the stage in Desmond Heeley's brilliant set and costume designs.
