RATHER like the giant rat seen stalking the streets of our town centre, another tale of an exotic animal has proved to be more than just an urban myth.
Many townsfolk claim to have seen an albino blackbird in Taylor Park and until now, it was dismissed as either a pigeon or a dove.
But now Dave Lowton from St Helens Chat, a website dedicated to St Helens, has the photographic evidence to prove that the snow-white bird was not a figment of their imagination.
His picture will perhaps rival that of the big rat as seen in The Star on May 16 of last year.
Albino birds are rare, but pure white ones are even rarer. Their lifespan however can be short, as they are often the target of predators.
