MICHAEL Worsley took to international Rugby Union like a duck to water on Sunday.

The 26-year-old from Burtonwood was a bag of nerves when he took to the field in England's 40-5 victory over Italy but you would never have guessed it. He looked assured in everything that he did as a second half replacement for Northampton's Robbie Morris and he is now setting his sights on becoming a permanent fixture in Clive Woodward's starting line-up.

Michael's dad Malcolm said: "It is a huge relief to get the first game out of the way. Making your international debut is a big milestone and Michael coped very well.

"He was all over the pitch when he got on. He always seemed to be at the right place at the right time.

"Michael made a number of good tackles and he received a lot of compliments about the way he played. It was a day he will never forget if he lives to be 100."

Michael enjoyed the experience so much that it pains him to have to wait a fortnight for England's next Six Nations game.

That will be against Scotland at Twickenham but the game Michael is really looking forward to is the one against Ireland at Lansdowne Road two weeks later.

The Irish are currently level pegging with England at the top of the table and Michael is licking his lips at the prospect of taking part in a championship decider.
