THE friends of a much-loved member of staff at Warrington Hospital have raised enough cash to send an ambulance to Romania as a tribute to her.
Carol Jones, of Ivanhoe Avenue, Lowton, died of cancer in January and was a tireless campaigner for orphaned children in Romania.
Her friends and colleagues from Warrington Hospital's labour ward raised funds for the Lowton Churches Romania Appeal for an ambulance, named after Carol, to serve villages in the Prahova Valley in the Carpathian Mountains.
Amanda Newsome, labour ward clerk, said: "It's such a fitting tribute. She was a lovely lady and is sadly missed."
Keith Bennett, the hospital's directorate manager of women's health, said: "I think it's a fantastic idea. It's exactly what she would have wanted."
The ambulance will go to Romania on Sunday but the campaign still needs £5,000.
Donations for the appeal can be sent to Lowton Churches Romanian Appeal, 13 Winwick Lane, Lowton, WA3 1LR.
