ONE school is using the experiences of a survivor of Auschwitz to highlight the problem of modern day discrimination such as racism and bullying.
Haydock High School history teacher Cathy Finnegan invited a man whose family was wiped out by the Nazis, to put a contemporary twist on his experiences.
Mayer, from the Holocaust Centre was the same age as the 13-year-olds he told his shocking story to, when he was taken to the concentration camp.
Mrs Finnegan said: "Although his was quite an horrific story, the pupils produced some excellent pieces of work through their workshops."
"The message we're trying to get over to the kids, across the board, is that there is still discrimination in society."
"This is a very effective way of showing them."
