British Telecom said it had not yet decided whether to get rid of the Adams Hill kiosk near Knutsford Railway Station.
"It is still under review and I cannot say anymore than that at this stage," said a spokesman.
The company wants to get rid of the pay phone because it does not cover its costs.
In October the Knutsford Guardian told how residents had two months to comment on the proposals before BT made a decision.
The company recently repaired the red phone box after complaints from residents.
Vandals had smashed glass panels, ripped off the door and covered it in graffiti.
BT is also considering dismantling another public pay phone in Northwich Road.
About 30,000 UK pay phones are under threat because the number of people using them has almost halved over the past three years.
