A WIDNES woman helped raise £2,000 for the hospital that treated her sister for leukaemia.

Alison Kelly, 23, from Ireland Street, Widnes was diagnosed with the illness in January.

She has the same form of the disease as Sam Evans, the Widnes boy who received a life saving transplant from his mother.

Alison's sister Jane decided to do what she could for the Royal Liverpool Hospital after they gave Alison five crucial courses of chemotherapy.

Jane, 30, from Bishops Way, said: "I have organised a few parties and I have had local business giving prizes.

"I have raised about £2,000 for 12 new radiators on ward 7Y."

"I want to say thanks to everyone who donated," said Jane, who works for B&Q.

Jane organised a birthday party for Alison at the Halton Stadium in October.

She said: "The stadium were brilliant. And I've done other little bits and pieces throughout the year."

"Alison is fine now, she is in remission, she is doing really well.

"She was very ill at first and she has made a remarkable recovery considering what she was like.

"This is just a little thank you to make the patients lives a little bit better while they are in hospital, it was the least I could do."

Prizes came from many companies including McDonalds, KFC, Warren James Jewellers, B&Q, Asda, Bargain Booze, Park Hampers, Quality Save and LA Bowl.
