THE first half was end-to-end both teams scoring good tries to take them in level at half time.

The Hornets stronger defence and more powerful attack shone through in the end but they were made to work very hard indeed.

Tries came from James and Teddy Chapelhow with two each, man of the match Daniel Hulme; coach's award Daniel Weitzel and Liam Naughton.

Top defence from Chris Spendlove earned him the top tackler award.

THE Hornets lead by 16 points at half time with tries from Thomas Walters, Kyle Smith, Matty Fozard and Sam McGrory.

The home team were forced into errors by the Hornets defence, led by Fozard. The second half saw Latchford get back into the game with four well-worked tries.

The fight-back was halted as Adam Murphy, Joe Kelly and Matty Fozard drove over for tries.

With five minutes remaining Kyle Smith scored a second try.

Coach's award went to Kieran Topping, Luke Farrell's big hits earned him the top tackler award and man of the match went to Sam Osborne.

Saddleworth Rangers U10s 0

IN the first half the Hornets threw everything into attack, Mark Percival came closest to scoring but was unlucky to lose possession in a tackle over the line.

Saddleworth had no answer to the Hornets defence.

The deadlock was broken when man of the match Jack Owens, from 20 metres out, dummied then sliced through the defence to score a converted try under the posts. The visitors hit back but were thwarted to leave the half-time score at 6-0.

Saddleworth's good cover tackling stopped good runs from George McGrogan and Jack Owens.

Alex Clare and Jack Buck both scored. Lewis Hulme, Dean Ainsworth and Luke Jones all caught the eye.

Waterhead U11s 4

HORNETS won against one of the top sides in the group to remain unbeaten.

Adam Lawton put in a clever kick early in the tackle count for Jim Hilton to chase and ground before the defence could cover it.

A deep kick from Waterhead was gathered by Bridge Timber man of the match Daniel Price who side-stepped his way passed the entire cover to score in the corner.

Dominic Smith, Jonathan Hayes, Steven Reynolds and Mike Bailey set the platform for the game to be played for long period in the visitor's half.

Jordan Penning showed pace down the touchline to score his first of two in the corner followed quickly by two individual long-range tries from Adam Lawton. Rounding off the scoring were Daniel Price, Dominic Smith and Daniel Heymans.

Training is at Birchfield at 6pm.

HORNETS eased into the semi finals.

In the first attack Andrew Steven-Davies pushed aside three tackles to crash over for the first of two tries.

A darting run from Gareth O'Brien enabled him to scramble over, Jamie Hurstfield converted.

Hornets continued to press and following a kick from O'Brien, Shaun Gledhill touched down.

Steven-Davies' second try made it 18-0 at half-time.

A penalty kick under the posts reduced the arrears to 18-2.

From the kick-off O'Brien made ground before passing to Liam Hulme, superb inter passing by both players resulted in O'Brien crossing the line, the scorer converted.

There were further tries for Hulme, Owen Conroy and Lewis Bailey who topped the tackle count.

Two conversions from O'Brien and one from Hurstfield ended the scoring.

Bailey, Gilhooley, Hulme, O'Brien and Risley all defended well. In attack there were strong runs from Turner, Warburton, Hyland, Armstrong, Hayward, Chadwick and Crank.
