A PROMISING young boxer from Runcorn Boys Club won his first contest on Thursday.
Tom Kavanagh, aged 13, from Bankfield school, made his debut in the ring against Liverpool's Darren Renshaw at the Stockbridge Village club in Liverpool.
It was a double success for the Boston Avenue-based club as 13-year-old James Hignet also won his fight the following night.
James, a pupil at The Grange school, won two of the three rounds at Flexions Club in Wrexham against Ben Hulse.
Coach John Lally said: "James did well, winning two out of his three rounds. It was Tom's first contest against a lad who has fought three times, so he did really well to win."
