BASEMENT Jaxx's third album is a pleasant surprise. Their terminally commercial previous offerings have always left me cold but with Kish Kash they have taken a turn towards a darker sound and - hey! - you know what? It suits them!

From the Jimi Hendrix samples at the start of the album to the final dreamy track, Feels Like Home, it seems like Basement Jaxx have finally grown up.

As well as blatantly stealing from Jimi, Basement Jaxx have also put layer upon layer of several genres of music together; from the Motown feel of Good Luck (featuring Lisa Kekaula) to the punk influenced Cish Cash. It's on the latter track that the move Basement Jaxx have taken towards the dark side becomes apparent, with Siouxsie Sioux providing eerie vocals.

In fact Kish Kash is full of collaborations; from Mercury Prize winner and flavour of the month Dizzee Rascal to N Sync's JC Chasez.

It's not the kind of album to put on when your mates come round, rather something to listen to while chilling out or after coming in from clubbing.
