I WRITE with reference to your article about 'Big name bands for Sherdley'.

All I can say is have St Helens Council gone stark raving bonkers? As a resident of the area, I can honestly say when it comes round to that time of year for Sherdley Show, I go sick.

We have people parking in front of our houses because they won't pay the prices which the Council set for car parking. We have loads of litter. We have fights breaking out in the streets. We have teenagers wandering the streets drunk. Need I go on? I would say for 90 per cent of residents of the area it is a nightmare .

So why on earth come up with something on the lines of open air concerts? we would have the same problems, only on a bigger scale.

I for one am not in favour of this course of action. If the Council are securing "massive chunks of investment" then surely it should put the money to better use, where it is needed more, i.e. better funding of Nursing Homes etc. I've been a resident in St Helens all my life but to be honest, lately all I can see is a downward turn in the town it really makes me sad.
