MIDFIELD ace Justin Cochrane says the squad want to keep Fortress Alexandra intact for as long as possible.

The 21-year-old has already become a firm favourite with Alex fans with some awesome performances since his summer move from non-league Hayes.

Opting against a possibility to join the Russian revolution at Chelsea, Cochrane has become a regular in Crewe's successful Division One campaign so far.

The home form has been instrumental in reaching the top 12 although Cochrane feels they've been a little unlucky on their travels.

"Obviously we haven't performed as well as we have at home but we've had a couple of good performances when last minute goals have cost us and we've been unlucky not to take all three points," he said.

"Norwich was difficult for us. They passed the ball quickly and had good players.

"But we made a good fight of it, particularly in the second half."

He's looking forward to another duel with Andy Hessenthaler as the Gills arrive on Saturday, just three weeks after their 2-0 victory over Crewe at the Priestfield Stadium.

"They were a strong, physical side and I learned a few things there," added Cochrane.

"They dominated the midfield. To be honest players like Rob Lee, Stuart McCall and Hessenthaler are the better players in this Division because they know how to play it.

"I'm just someone trying to learn and see what I can take from them."

The players are focused on victory on Saturday.

"We turned Gresty Road into a fortress and we want to keep it going," continued Cochrane.

"We all want to do as well as we can for this club and we all want to push up this league."

Goals and developing leadership skills are aims.

"I had a chance at Norwich and my eyes lit up and I was seeing the headlines," he admitted.

"I was a bit upset with that to be honest and I'm going to try and keep my head down next time.

"I always try and give 100 percent every time and encourage players.

"They're a quiet set of players here, but it's good to try an encourage each other."
