THE community safety department at Warrington Police is advising shoppers to be on their guard this festive season.

With Christmas fast approaching, many people are tempted to avoid the rush by doing all their shopping in one go, making several trips to the car with handfuls of bags before returning to the stores.

Thieves know this and will wait around public car parks and watch people filling their cars with goods.

Neil Jukes, community safety officer, said: "Do not leave your Christmas shopping in the car and then go back into the shops. Do not put it in the boot and expect it to be safe. We advise shoppers to make a series of separate, planned visits to the shops so they can carry all their shopping and return home with their purchases straight away."
