A WOMAN is lucky to be alive this week after robbers are reported to have driven a car straight at her tossing their victim into the air.
The callous thieves are then alleged to have stolen her handbag as she lay injured.
The victim, thought to be aged in her 30s, was walking along Clipsley Lane in Haydock on her way to work at about 7.30am last Thursday when she was struck by the car.
People who helped the injured woman at the scene say the impact of the car flung her up in the air before she smashed into the car's windscreen.
Occupiers of the car allegedly stole the woman's handbag and left the scene. The victim was treated by passers-by and staff at the nearby Iceland Supermarket.
Ambulance crews then treated the woman and took her to Whiston Hospital. Amazingly it is thought she was not badly hurt.
Police, meanwhile, have charged several people in connection with the robbery.
