THE Liberal Democrat who wrote in challenging the completion of the stadium appears to have missed the point of what is meant by providing good quality public services and facilities.
Halton Stadium is a valued and well used community facility. It has remained unfinished for five years now and the council has taken the decision to complete it. The fact there is a trading loss for the stadium has been acknowledged for years and this is not unusual for such facilities.
Unlike the Lib Dems, the Labour Group on Halton Council views returns for investment in the stadium other than just in monetary terms. The new arts centre, The Brindley, is shortly to open in Runcorn and it is clear that will have an operating deficit.
Is he saying Lib Dems oppose funding the arts centre as well as Halton Stadium?
For the information of the Lib Dem who wrote in last week, I would point out that his party's representatives on the council receive regular reports in all aspects of the stadium's activities. His party's representatives on the council also have sight of and opportunity to comment on the annual business plan for Halton Stadium.
Cllr Phil Harris, executive board member with responsibility for Halton Stadium
