A NEWSAGENTS in Cuddington will end more than three decades of service when owners Colin and Irene Cheshire retire at the end of this month.
Colin, 69, and Irene, 67, have run the Warrington Road newsagents since arriving from Aston on Mersey in 1970.
With help from their three children, Caroline, Derrick and Suzanne, they have built up a successful and popular business over the years.
Irene said they have had a very happy time at the shop and although she is looking forward to their retirement, she will miss the social side of the business.
She said: "It has been so pleasant to work here, I've really loved it and I will miss our customers. Cuddington is a lovely village."
Poor health and a dwindling number of news boys have prompted the couple's decision to close and although they do not have specific plans for their retirement, they are looking forward to having 'lie ins' after 34 years of very early mornings.
Irene added: "I can't wait to have the free time on my hands."
Ken Nixon, Cuddington parish councillor, said the couple would be greatly missed by people in the village.
He said: "People don't realise the value of something until it is gone, the residents will really miss them."
He offered his best wishes to the couple for a very long and happy retirement.
Although the Cheshires will be leaving the shop premises, they have every intention of staying on in the village.
