WHAT a cracking job Halton Council does for local sport.

Halton Council's advertisement in last week's World titled 'another year of sporting success' genuinely surprised me as I didn't realise how much our council helps local sports clubs and athletes.

Every year, over recent years, we seem to have seen new practical schemes to help local sport improve and major sums of money committed.

It's good to see that the council is investing in sport at grass roots level as well as having built a stadium that is the envy of many towns around.

Looking at the figures published in the paper the council is investing significant sums into local clubs and athletes in developing sport that more than matches any money benefiting local professional clubs like the Widnes Vikings or Runcorn Football Club.

That shows the council is planning for the future and not just in two sports, however popular.

The council might not get everything right but they are doing well for local sport and young people from what I see.

Keep up the good work Halton Council.
