A FORMER heavy goods driver is calling for lorries to be banned from overnight parking in Brooks Lane after discovering human faeces, bottles of urine and litter left in the lane.

Chris Overton, 59, of Brooks Lane, is disgusted by the amount of litter that accumulates from lorry drivers who park overnight.

And she has highlighted the problems to Chris Jones, sector inspector for Congleton borough, who said it is one of the first issues to be dealt with by the newly-formed Anti-social Behaviour Group.

Mrs Overton, a member of Middlewich Clean Team, said she has been carrying out surveys on the road and has counted up to 35 lorries parked along the road in one night and when she clears up the litter, not only does she find the usual tins, cans and paper rubbish, but also human faeces and bottles of urine.

Mrs Overton said: "The amount of litter is disgusting and also the lorries are parking without their lights on, in the wrong direction and on the pavement, so it is very dangerous and can be very difficult to drive along the road without getting stuck.

"Ideally we want the lorries banned from the road altogether.

"Both my husband and I were heavy goods drivers so we do understand what the drivers have to put up with and how difficult it can be.

"They do need somewhere to stay and I would like to see a suitable area with skips and toilet facilities set up for them. To me, somewhere at Midpoint 18 is a good place."

Congleton Borough Council's Streetscape team did provide bins for the lane at the end of last year, but Mrs Overton said they are not enough as the litter still builds up.

A spokesman for the borough council confirmed that the Highways and Transportation Local Joint Committee for Congleton is aware of the problems on Brooks Lane which is included on a list of areas to be investigated.
