THE Wids U8s went to the Wilmslow festival hoping to emulate their win at Vale of Lune.

They got off to a bad start by losing the first game against Tarleton 30-20.

In the second game they defeated a very resolute Leigh side 25-15.

In the third group game against Percy Park from Northumberland, who were leading the group, the Wids turned in one of their best performances of the season to win 35-20.

This meant Wids ended up top of their group and qualified for the semi finals.

This was a very close affair which finished 20-20 at full time.

The referee decided to play extra time and the Wids went on and scored the crucial try to win 25-20, so they thought.

As the referee handed in his score sheet he was told that he should not have played extra time and that the Widnes win could not stand because the only game that could play extra time was the final itself.

This left both teams looking to the results they had achieved in the group matches and it was Lymm who had a slight advantage and so went through to the final.
