A SUMMER showdown between Runcorn Reaperman Robin Reid and IBO super-middleweight Brian Magee is still on the cards.
The undefeated Irishman won on Saturday despite being floored in the first round.
A world title eliminator for a major belt is still in the pipeline after Magee survived the early knockdown by rugged Nigerian, Jerry Elliot, to successfully defend his title in Belfast, after 12 rounds.
It was the perfect outcome for Reid who will have watched with interest as 28-year-old Magee was given an uncomfortable time in front of his own fans by German-based Elliot.
"It was nearly all over in the first round", Reid's coach, Brian Hughes said. "A fit Robin Reid would take a guy like Brian Magee to the cleaners based on that display.
"Magee is one of those fighters who looks good one day, then terrible the next.
"Robin would demolish him and he knows it. That's why it's his promoter and not Magee himself who is talking about Robin Reid."
The Grim Reaper has stepped up his training in recent weeks and will fight in an eight-rounder next month before lining up Magee in the summer.
