EARLESTOWN'S newcomer batsmen helped the club to start the new cricket season in winning fashion at home.
Alex Wright scored 49 on his debut and Andy McClaren, on his return to the club, struck 37 in an impressive Sandhurst Shield victory over New Victoria.
The away side batted first and scored 130 runs for nine wickets with the pick of the bowlers being the reliable Paul Jay, who scalped five batsmen, and Todd Prescho, who took two wickets.
Club captain John Allan said: "This is a great start for the team and we can only get better."
