OLYMPIC fever hit Halton as schools from around the borough competed in the Youth Games Athletics Trials at Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes.
Primary school pupils battled it out in a variety of track and field events including sprints, long jump and javelin for a place at this summer's Merseyside Youth Games.
After a day of good fun and hard work, three schools emerged as winners, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, St Gerard's, and Lunts Heath. They were presented with trophies by Halton's deputy mayor Cllr Dennis Middlemass and will receive special coaching from Halton Harriers.
Organiser Julie McFarlane, Halton's assistant sports development officer, said: "We are proud that so many children took part, it was a brilliant day, and everyone really enjoyed themselves."
