With regard to the letter from David Birch of Howley (Guardian, April 8).
Could Mr Birch take off his primrose and blue tinted glasses for just one minute and allow a view of the wider world in.
As a local councillor, I represented local constituents in opposing an out-of-town town superstore opposite to their homes.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that's what local councillors are elected to do.
I had no argument against the new stadium in itself but I wasn't prepared to sacrifice the integrity of the planning process to get it.
As with all planning issues, people are entitled to support or to object to a particular development - that's what's called free speech and I wasn't prepared to be intimidated by anyone in that regard.
I believe what I did was right and proper by those who elected me and if this, as Mr Birch implies, was the reason for my political demise, then so be it.
My conscience is completely clear.
