WHEN Warrington Borough Council decided on a £20 fee to collect large items of household rubbish instead of operating a free service, I complained.
I was assured that the council 'had done its homework' and there would be little or no extra fly-tipping. The score for this weekend alone in the backs behind Longford Street is: one 3-piece suite, one shopping trolley, one bicycle, one child's pushchair and a woven wicker washing basket.
At one time all this rubbish would have been collected on request. The council will still have to remove it so why make this ridiculous charge in the first place?
This is a typical money-saving idea not thoroughly thought out.
When I phone in about 10 minutes time a litter warden will be dispatched to check if I am telling the truth and then eventually something will be done, if the fairies don't move it in the meantime.
