A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy proved himself a true hero when he swam 50 lengths in a swimathon to raise money for Macmillan nurses.
Nathan Gorzko, of Pennant Close, Birchwood, had only ever done two lengths without a break before his mammoth 50-length effort. The Gorse Covert Primary School pupil was a member of a team that also included his older sister Kay, mum Hania and family friend Janet Wells.
Hania said: "The challenge was to complete 200 lengths between the four of us. Nathan proved to be a real star and swam 50 lengths.
"We pulled him out after that, which I think he was annoyed at because he wanted to swim the full mile."
The team completed the 200 lengths with Kay and Janet swimming 60 lengths each, leaving Hania to do the final 30 lengths.
