A MASSIVE 464 women have already signed up to take part in this year's Warrington Guardian sponsored Race for Life.

There are still places available for the race, which takes place on Sunday, June 13, and is in aid of Cancer Research UK.

Entrants can walk, jog or run the 5km course around Walton Hall Gardens.

Last year Lorna Chappell ran the Race for Life in memory of her mum, who died of cancer at the age of 59.

It was the first time Lorna had run a race and she finished in an impressive time of 38 minutes. And this year she hopes to do even better.

Lorna said: "I lost my mum very suddenly at the age of 59 to cancer two years ago.

"She was my best friend as well as my mum and my whole world seemed to fall apart for a long time after.

"I now feel that it's my duty to her to do all I can in combating this horrible disease.

"I entered the Race For Life for the first time last year. Up until then I didn't think I'd be able to walk 5km never mind run.

"I started to train for it about three months before and was determined that I would do it. The actual day was a very emotional one for me.

"It was purely thinking of my mum that kept me going. I was so proud of myself when I finished the race in 38 minutes and I raised more than £300. My mum would be so proud."

She added: "Last year I ran as part of a company team calling ourselves Charlie's Angels. I actually ran with a colleague who lost her 21-year-old sister to cancer just a few months after I lost my mum so we both had very personal reasons for taking part and we both motivated each other to keep going during the race.

"We are both employed by Albany Vehicle Rentals Limited who will again be acting as major sponsors for us."
