St Helens Vine 4 Blackbrook 34
BROOK eased their way into the next round of this year's St Helens Cup with this ultimately clear-cut success.
Vine put up brave resistance in the first half, the visitors only leading 10-0 at the interval with tries by Ian Williams and Paul Fass, the latter effort converted by Paul Toole.
In the second half though Vine began to tire and Brook took control.
Full-back Fass completed a hat-trick with two further touchdowns, the first a solo effort from inside his own half, debutant Andy Tinsley marked his step up from the under-18s with a brace, and winger Scott Lyon also crossed, with Toole adding two conversions.
Vine scored a consolation try.
Fass was selected as Brook's Nexus man-of-the-match with centres, Mark Leonard and Dave Llewellyn and forwards, Barry McGilvray and Mick Ledger also in good form for the winners.
