Haydock 22 Bold Miners 23

BOLD booked their place in the Premier Cup Final with a brilliant display to beat Haydock.

Haydock scored in the first minute, Mark Rigby jinking his way through to go over in the corner. Haydock scored again when second row Marsh crashed over for a try.

Despite good runs from Gary Talbot and Paul Rigby, Haydock's defence held fast and it took a penalty from Mark Saunders to put Bold on the scoresheet.

The next try went to Bold's winger Chris Burgess who outpaced the defence to score. Bold were now on a roll and when centre Danny Lavin broke away Neil Babbs was on hand to score in the corner. A Haydock penalty tied the scores at half time.

From the restart Bold played some excellent rugby, J Johnson and Darren Anders breaking the Haydock defence. Chris Burgess scored his second try collecting a neat kick from Dave Hill to go over.

Haydock hit back to tie the score with a try in the corner. A drop goal from Mark Saunders put Bold back in the lead. Both sides then exchanged penalties, with Bold hanging on to a one point lead. Haydock broke away to score beneath the posts.

From the restart with four minutes to go a mistake by Haydock gave the ball to Bold and a long pass from Darren Anders found winger Chris Burgess who went over for his third try.

With the score standing at 22-21 for Haydock Mark Saunders from the touchline slotted over a magnificent conversion to win the game for Bold.

The Grundy Excavations man of the match went to Gary Talbot with Mark Saunders and Chris Burgess having good games.
