WITH the number of traffic accidents in Vale Royal on the increase, Cheshire Constabulary is trying to help bikers get on the road to safer riding.
The road policing unit is getting ready to kick-start a number of informal courses geared to help riders in Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich who want to become better and safer motorcyclists.
The BikeSafe course lasts for three days and gives riders the chance to work with experienced police patrol motorcyclists to improve their riding skills.
The first two days of the course take place in the safety of a classroom.
Bikers will learn how to raise the standard of their skills, interpret their surroundings and how to maximise their chances of being seen by motorists.
On the third day those taking part will get the chance to put the theory into practise when they take a two-hour assessment ride with an advanced level motorcycle officer.
Sgt Tony Cooke, from the road policing unit, said: "This course won't make riders invincible. It is important to stress that. But if people who go on the course take heed of what they see and hear during the course they stand a much better chance of staying safe on the roads."
He added: "It's an advancement on skills and techniques, which aren't taught at learner level. This is the next step for people who have passed their test."
The BikeSafe course takes place in Northwich on July 7, 8, 11 and costs £35. If you are interested in improving your driving skills, contact Sarah Carter on 01244 615254.
