TALK is cheap, only results matter.

That is the message from disappointed Vikings boss, Neil Kelly, after his side surrendered a promising run of results with a limp loss to Wakefield at the weekend.

"In the previous weeks we have been pleased with the commitment, effort and enthusiasm shown by the players," he said, "but we were seriously lacking those qualities on Sunday."

"My biggest disappointment was that we lacked the enthusiasm to compete.

"It was an opportunity to show our ambition and we ended up second best."

It was the sort of game that Kelly admits his side should be taking points from as they bid to put space between themselves and Super League strugglers Castleford and Salford.

He said: "On paper there is not really much to chose between us and Wakefield but in the end it came down to desire and enthusiasm and we weren't up for it."

The Vikings face Wigan Warriors on Friday, a team who are struggling to turn Challenge Cup form into league results after losing key players at the start of the season.

"Their league position isn't what they probably think it should be and people will be saying they will be concentrating on the cup final when they face us," Kelly said.

"It is up to us to go there and make sure we put that theory to the test.

"We have a run of games coming up against the top half of the table and they are the games I know my players will be up for."

One player who currently needs no motivating is mercurial stand-off Jules O'Neill who was outstanding against the Wildcats.

"There is a real onus on everyone else to come forward and start matching his effort and quality," Kelly said.
